2 Timothy 2:20-21 (New Living Translation)
20 In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. 21 If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.
These verses compare some Christians to some home utensils. Rich people, like me, have some utensils that are only used for special occasions while the remaining ones are used everyday.
Then verse 21 speaks of some Christians that can be ready for the Master to use. These Christians can be a “special utensil for honorable use.”
I don’t like verse 21. I don’t like the idea of “special Christians.” Here, however, it is right in front of me. This verse sure seems (how is that for hedging) to speak of some Christians who are reserved for special things and special use by the Master.
